Divemaster Course $735 (includes GST)

The divemaster course aims to produce diving leaders who have the theory knowledge and practical skills to lead safe enjoyable dives for qualified divers. The divemaster is also essential in assisting the instructor with students in all levels of courses. The divemaster can also run some diver programs themselves such as the Scuba Review program and the Snorkel Diver program.

The divemaster course is the first in the professional level courses and can allow you to work in the diving industry. The course is also a stepping stone towards becoming a dive instructor.

Course Summary

Pre-requisites

  • Qualified advanced open water or equivalent
  • Qualified rescue diver or equivalent
  • Proof of CPR and First-Aid training within 3 years
  • Have completed a minimum of 20 dives (60 by course completion)
  • Be 18 years old
  • Have an approved divers medical

Course Overview

Divemaster training consists of three phases that include

  2. Knowledge Development (Theory)

    • Dive Management and Control
    • Supervising Students in Training

    • Skills and Environment
    • The Recreational Dive Planner
  3. Practical Application (Experience)
    • Option A Practical Training exercises
    • Option B Internship

1. Watermanship and Skills Assessment

This session fine tunes the divers skills in the confined water environment. All diving skills are assessed to professional level standards. The divers swimming and snorkelling abilities are determined. The overall skill are rated and must be of sufficient standard to pass.

2. Knowledge Development

This aims to give the participant instructor level knowledge in the following areas: Dive Planning, Dive Management and Control, Supervising Students in Training, Physics, Physiology, Equipment, Skills and Environment and The Recreational Dive Planner. 

Each section is taught independently by the instructor and there is an exam for each section. All must be passed to complete the course.

3. Practical Application

An instructor supervising studentsThe student has the choice of lectures or by completing and internship with us. The internship is really the best option as it allows you to gain skills in the real world environment. In the internship you will assist in all levels of dive training both in the pool and the open water. This allows you to gain experience and confidence with your diving skills.

To complete the course the candidate must have done minimum of 60 logged dives. The course includes all the dives needed to achieve the 60 dives.
